The Power of After-School Tutoring: Bridging the Learning Gap in Rural Schools

In many rural communities across Tamil Nadu, children face significant hurdles in their educational journey. While enrollment in primary schools is high, the quality of learning is often hampered by understaffed classrooms and the inability of first-generation learners to receive academic support at home. When parents are daily wage laborers who never had the opportunity to study, children often struggle with homework and complex subjects, leading to high dropout rates in later years.

To address this critical issue, Sundaram Ammal Foundation has established Evening Study Centers in multiple villages. These centers serve as safe, well-lit spaces where children gather after school to complete their assignments and receive personalized tutoring from trained local volunteers.

More Than Just Academics

Our after-school programs do much more than improve test scores. They instill a sense of discipline, encourage peer-to-peer learning, and build self-confidence. Tutors act as mentors, identifying the unique strengths and weaknesses of each child and guiding them toward a brighter academic future.
